Tuesday morning, we drove up Sierra Blanca to the ski resort, called Ski Apache. (Ruidoso also sits on the edge of the Mescalero Apache Reservation. The ski resort is run by the tribe.) The drive winds up the mountain - It can get a little nerve-wracking looking over the edge (sans guardrail)! From the ski lodge, we hiked up almost 1000 feet to the Crest Trail and then came back - We were definitely feeling the altitude! Ruidoso is at 6900 feet elevation; the peak of Sierra Blanca is 12,003 feet. We stopped to eat "lunch" - trail mix, really - on the side of the mountain, looking up at the peak and the ski lifts criss-crossing the slopes.

That night, after we finished the Clint Eastwood movie, we were both bleary-eyed and yawning. We flipped to the weather channel to see what the next day's weather would be like, and the weatherman told us it was 7:30pm!! Another early night for Chris and Stacey...
