In the morning, we visited the Chamber of Commerce and the Ranger Station to gather information. We went to a bookstore in Mid-Town and bought a New Mexico travel guide.
After lunch, we visited Monjeau Lookout, an old fire lookout built by the CCC in the 1930's. The lookout tower sits at 10,356 feet. We'd bought a topographical map of White Mountain Wilderness, a designated wilderness area within Lincoln National Forest, and I spent some time figuring out the lay of the land. Amazingly, the Civic Hybrid coped quite well with the mountain roads!
We picked up a couple Westerns to watch to get us in the Wild West mood. Monday night we started Clint Eastwood's The Outlaw Josey Wales. We fell asleep in the first 15 minutes! (Not an indication of the quality of the movie, believe me, just of our level of fatigue!)
