Sunday
We - or I should say Chris - drove all day. A ten hour drive, we talked of nothing but the wedding for the first five hours, rehashing every minute - We couldn't stop talking about it! When we finally settled down, somewhere in West Texas, the scenery had started to change - From brown and scrubby West Texas plains, to brown, scrubby hills, then bluffs with huge wind farms at their crests. I slept through the Texas-New Mexico border - I'm a big help on road trips...I nap alot. We listened to the iPod playlists from the BBQ and the wedding. By Roswell, we could see the mountains, and we managed to make it into Ruidoso, in the heart of the Lincoln National forest and at the foot of Sierra Blanca, before dark.
We stopped in town for burgers, then drove up to the cabin and unloaded the car.

Here's the view from the cabin porch - It overlooks a ravine with a creek, actually the Ruidoso River, running through it. Rio Ruidoso means "noisy river."

This is the upstairs of the cabin - Out the window of the kitchen is the deck with the view of the river.
Those blue blurs are Stellar jays - Rambunctious and loud, just like our blue jays, but with bright blue bodies and black heads. Every morning we put out peanuts and birdseed for the birds - We saw jays, a flicker, chickadees, crows, a chipmunk and squirrels.
Our honeymoon started the day the clocks "fell back," so we lost an hour with the time change. From Texas to New Mexico, we lost another hour...We spent an entire week unsure of what time it actually was - All the clocks in the house were different, our cell phones didn't agree...On top of all that confusion, it gets dark in the mountains at about 4:30, so we ate dinner at 4:30 or 5pm and were often in bed by 9 or 9:30!
