Although a struggle, we peeled ourselves out of bed Thursday morning, and reluctantly checked out of the spa. We'll be back soon, 10,000 Waves!
Breakfast at Pasqual's - I'd been dreaming about their Huevos Motulenos for years, and I was not disappointed! We spent the morning wandering around downtown Santa Fe - Art galleries, museums, kitsch, and class...We spent an hour in Keshi, a shop that specializes in Zuni fetish art and lets their artists (from the Zuni reservations in Eastern NM) set their own prices. At the Native American Indian Art Institute (NAIAI), we discovered two Native American artists - Jamison Banks and Ryan Singer - that we both fell in love with. We left Santa Fe after lunch.
We drove back to Ruidoso by way of the Gran Quivira ruins, the largest of a grouping of pueblo ruins in the area. The site was an important trade site both before and after the arrival of the Spanish in the 1600's. Although there are many unexplored mounds at the site, archaeologists excavated the mound in these pictures because it's one of the only sites in the Americas where the Spanish friar's "convento,"
or living quarters, is attached to the native pueblo structure. Normally, the convento was attached to the church itself. We spoke at length with Ranger Bob, a transplanted Texas who missed breakfast tacos and, of all things, HEB! We were the only people at the ruins all afternoon.
We drove back into Ruidoso in the dark, stopping for burgers ("Lincoln County" size = 1/2 pound) along the way. We started watching another Western, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (Bob Dylan did the soundtrack and has a cameo!) and promptly fell asleep again.

I'm sorry. I don't know you but I was trying to find a long lost friend named Jamison Banks...I googled him and found his name in your blog.
Where was this?
